Hills Welcomes Santa on a Soggy Night

Rainy weather didn't dampen the excitement at Farmington Hills Fire Station #5 when Santa showed up.

Scores of excited children gathered at on Tuesday evening, awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus.

A holiday lighting ceremony planned in the fountain area near was scuttled earlier in the day due to heavy rain. Instead, the light switch was placed inside the fire station bay, where Hills Mayor Jerry Ellis recruited help from the children to flip it.

In addition to the candle and tree lights, the switch activated holiday decorations at the fire station, including a lighted fire engine.

The , under the direction of Brian Christian, sang a Hanukkah song, "Svivon" and "Carol of the Bells," before joining with the audience in a chorus of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," which accompanied Santa's arrival on a fire engine. After greeting the crowd, St. Nick took up his traditional spot in a chair by the fireplace to hear children's Christmas wishes.
