Ice Making Begins at Downtown Farmington Rink

The rink could open Sunday, if the weather cooperates.

The first layer of what will be a new downtown Farmington ice rink went in Friday afternoon, with ice-making to continue over the next 24 hours, officials say.

Annette Knowles, assistant to Farmington city manager Vince Pastue, said the Riley Park ice rink could be ready by Sunday, if all goes well and the mercury doesn't climb over 43 degrees Saturday. Aol.com's SKYE forecast predicts a high of 39.

"It's still up in the air until we say it's open," Knowles said, adding the ice rink's Facebook page will be the best source of information for eager skaters.

The rink opening has been delayed by issues with running electricity to the site and, most recently, a problem with the chilling unit
