Retired Farmington Area School Staff Donate to After School Program

The group brings a Wii gaming system to the Jon Grant Community Center Tuesday.

Farmington Area Retired School Personnel members visited the City of Farmington Hills after school program at the Jon Grant Center Tuesday to deliver a special gift.

The group, which includes retired teachers, bus drivers, janitorial staff and others who have worked in the district, donated a Wii Sports gaming system. Representative Sue Bielski said members started collecting school supplies a year ago for donation to area schools, but some members just contributed cash.

"I thought of the community center and called to see if they needed anything," she said.

School program site supervisor Carol Livingston said she gave the group a list of needed items, and they selected the Wii system. Multiple gaming systems are needed, she said, because more than 200 kids gather at the Costick Center and Farmington Hills Ice Arena on school day afternoons.

"We're open to any donations," Livingston said.
