Snow in Downtown Farmington? It Happened Saturday, for a Good Cause

Kids chilled out in downtown Farmington Saturday morning, during a Family Fun event designed to support a new ice rink in Riley Park.

Volunteer Mellissa McKenna said she took on the project as a way to get kids excited about the rink, which will be installed in early December. Over the past two months, she worked with a team of volunteers and Farmington Downtown Development Authority staff on setting up the fundraiser.

While a "black tie optional" Snow Ball event is planned for adults Nov. 7, Saturday was all about the kids, including "snow" delivered by Suburban Hockey in Farmington Hills, games and a Mad Science show held at the Farmington Civic Theater.

"This has gone on flawlessly, the support has been amazing," she said. "Our goal is to raise awareness and hopefully make some money."
