Wood Creek Girl Scout Troop Project Helps Kids at Botsford Hospital

Five members of the junior Girl Scout troop at Wood Creek Elementary School in Farmington Hills have earned a community service badge through their work on a project to brighten the days of pediatric patients and visitors at Botsford Hospital.

Led by troop leader Lisa Hannawa, fourth-graders Alba Dajlani, Savana Hannawa, Shyla Hickman, Priya Sahu, and Allison Weiner were inspired by The Jared Box Project to make and deliver Jared Boxes to their local hospital. Each of the six boxes they delivered was filled with small gifts, toys, cards, and games. Hospital staff gives the boxes to children to provide a special diversion as they receive treatment or visit a loved one who is a patient at the Farmington Hills hospital. 
 
“At the beginning of last year, we chose several projects to work on throughout the year. The girls picked which ones they wanted to work on,” said Lisa Hannawa, troop leader. 
 
Participation in community service projects through Girl Scouts, helps these girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.
