Art Moves Into 'Plein Air' During Downtown Farmington Fine Art Friday Night

The final event tied to the city's Detroit Institute of Arts Inside|Out exhibit includes a painting re-enactment and artists working outdoors.

Wondering what all those people were doing on the lawn at the Masonic Hall in downtown Farmington Friday around 6 p.m.?

They were re-enacting “A Day in June” by George Wesley Bellows, a painting installed near the hall as part of the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Inside|Out exhibition, which closes June 30.

The event was part of the  "Fine Art Friday Nights" Adult Art Crawl, featuring Michigan Plein Air Painters working near the seven DIA artworks along Grand River and Farmington Road.

Melanie Swords of Milford worked on a depiction of the as she painted near “Annunciatory Angel” by Fra Angelico at . 

"It was quite an honor to be invited," she said, adding that the city presented many good subjects. "Farmington is really beautiful."
