Cut Time Players Kick Off Farmington Hills Cultural Arts Series Sept. 8

Another season of high-quality, affordable concerts in Farmington Hills begins on Saturday, Sept. 8, 7:30 p.m., as the Cut Time Players kick off a wide selection of musical entertainment in the intimate setting of the .

Cut Time Players is an ensemble formed in 1995 by an enthusiastic group of Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) musicians, who share the goal of creating “a shortcut to loving classical music” with a “fresh, fun and personal” presentation. Led by DSO bassist and 2010 Kresge Artist Awardee Rick Robinson, the group is known for its fun-filled, animated performances and imaginative interpretations of popular classical pieces.

The “light classics” concert will feature selections such as “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” which many will recognize from Disney’s Fantasia, “The Entertainer Rag”, Ravel’s “Bolero,” and pieces by Beethoven, Strauss, and other world famous composers.

Following the “Cut Time Players,” the series will take another turn back in time to the Woodstock era, when Magic Bus, HOUR Detroit's “Best Detroit Band” will rock the theater on Nov. 2. Magic Bus brings a nostalgic flavor of the past with their lights, costumes, and instrumentation, performing songs from groups such as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. 

A special tribute to Frank Sinatra will take place on Saturday, Jan. 12, as Peter Oprisko brings “Fabulous Frank” to the stage. Oprisko is known for his on-air radio show “Exclusively Sinatra,” and has been called the “Rolls Royce of singers today” by renowned pianist Ramsey Lewis.
