American Idol Results: Is Jena Irene Safe?

Jena Irene Asciutto is one step closer to winning the "American Idol" title. She was one of three finalists in the FOX talent competition to advance after Thursday night's results show.

Jessica Meuse was voted off the show.

That leaves Asciutto, who performs as Jena Irene, in the Top 3 with Caleb Johnson, and Alex Preston.

Maryanne Messina was, if not switching her loyalties, at least sharing them.

Soon, she said in an email to Patch, America will know what Farmington Hills already knows about 17-year-old Jena Irene Asciutto, the Detroit suburb’s favorite daughter” “You are a superstar … a shining star and we look forward to (your) contributions in the future!” wrote Messina, who is part of a group of 45-65 people who regularly watch the FOX television reality talent show.

Asciutto, who performs as Jena Irene on the program, brought tears to the eyes of many of the fans in Messina’s group with a heartfelt rendition of Elvis Presley’s timeless classic, “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

Messina called it “nothing short of amazing” – and judge Jennifer Lopez agreed, giving Jena Irene a kiss – and it was enough for them to put their voting power behind the Farmington Hills musician.

Messina wrote:

“We certainly do appreciate the tremendous talent (Caleb) does possess. He is a strong contender for the top spot this year on ‘Idol.’ Yet, yet, yet – Jena Irene, who is absolutely captivating, enormously talented and amazing, will give him a run he will never forget as we watch and wait for America to decide on the next Idol. Could it be a shared spot for the first time in ‘Idol’ history.”

Part of the answer will be decided tonight when the Top 4 will be winnowed as America's vote is revealed live in the all-new "1 of 4 Voted Off" episode of American Idol XIII.

Besides Johnson, other finalists are Alex Preston and Jessica Meuse.

Besides Lopez, judges are Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. in the program hosted by Ryan Secreast.

The season finale is May 21.
