Farmington Fine Art Friday NIghts Finale Features En Plein Air Artists, Merchant Specials and More

Help the Farmington Downtown Development Authority recreate a painting that is part of the DIA's Inside|Out exhibition.

Downtown Farmington will hum with activity tonight, as the offers up the last of its Fine Art Friday Nights, a series of events tied to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) Inside|Out exhibition.

Michigan Plein Air painters will take to the sidewalks near the seven exhibited art works, which are posted on buildings and free-standing on Grand River and Farmington Rd., and the precision parasol team the Warnerettes will stroll through town. 

At 6 p.m., volunteers are needed for a reenactment of "A Day in June", the artwork posted on Grand River near the . Wear your Victorian finery or any white ensemble. At the same time, a docent-guided walking tour of the Inside|Out exhibit starts at "Syria by the Sea", posted outside of Starbucks.

Downtown businesses will host special activities of their own, including:

  • Pop-Up Gallery and reception featuring the works of Elaine Grohman at 
  • Basket Raffle ($250 value) at , plus salon specials and products from the Pampered Chef
  • Artwork by Pre-Raphaelite artist John Waterhouse at the featuring a mead and cheese reception

Spend $25 at participating merchants and enter to win artwork from downtown Farmington's newest business, , or Michigan Plein Air Painter Bob Perrish. Participating merchants will display a window sign, and the drawing will be held on June 12.

At 7 p.m., the Rhythmz in Riley Park open-air concert season starts, with The Luddites, an 11-piece acoustic orchestra. To give the new sod at a chance to take root, this week's concert will be held at the gazebo in front of on Grand River, east of Grove Street.
