Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild Display Opens Sept. 24 at City Gallery

The Guild's "Synergy" exhibit reflects the work of many artists working with a theme that supports the City of Detroit's revitalization.

A display of unique beadwork by members of the Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild will be on exhibit at the City Gallery in Farmington Hills from Sept. 24 to Nov. 11.

The exhibit, named “Synergy” for the cooperative efforts of its many artists, will feature elaborate decorative pieces, jewelry, and variations of other items that celebrate the use of beads in their creation. The exhibit’s theme is “Yeah…Detroit, So Bead It,” in support of raising awareness for the revitalization of the City of Detroit.

The Great Lakes Beadworkers Guild celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2012. With a membership of over 250, the Guild began with only a dozen members in the spring of 1992, meeting at the Royal Oak Library every other month to honor beads, which the group humorously suspects of having “individual personalities.”
