Heat Drives Thursday Stars in the Park Concert to the Costick Center

The Farmington Community Band's Big Band ensemble will perform at 7 p.m.

This week's heat wave has moved the "Stars in the Park" concert from Heritage Park to the air conditioned on 11 Mile Rd.

The Farmington Community Big Band will perform Thursday at 7 p.m. in the free summer concert series, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services and the city. This select group of musicians, all members of the Farmington Community Band (FCB), will perform a wide variety of favorite jazz standards, along with lively introductions for each piece, and vocal and instrumental solos.

Founded in 1966 as the Farmington Civic Band, the FCB has grown from the initial six-member group to encompass today's 80-plus member Concert Band, the 20-piece Big Band, Clarinet Choir, Dixieland Band, Flute Ensemble, and several other small ensembles. The FCB is a non-profit organization sponsored by individual, business, and corporate patronage as well as grants from corporations.
