Wednesday is 'Jena Irene Asciutto Day' as 'American Idol' Competition Tightens
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson reminds residents that every vote counts for the North Farmington High School senior, who is among the six finalists on "American Idol."
Across Oakland County, Wednesday belongs to Jena Irene, the North Farmington High School senior who is among six contestants still in the hunt for a recording contract current season “American Idol,” the FOX network’s talent show.
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson declared Wednesday, April 23, as ”Jena Irene Asciutto Day,” The Oakland Press reports.
“Now that Jena Irene is in the top six, every vote counts — we want to help our hometown contestant make it to the finals,” Patterson said of Irene, who dropped her surname for the stage. “I honored Jena Irene with her own day to make sure our 1.2 million residents tune in to watch this remarkably talented young woman and vote for her.”

“American Idol XIII” has had a distinct Oakland County flavor. Malaya Watson of Southfield was eliminated two weeks ago, and Sam Woolf, who was raised in West Bloomfield Township but now resides in Florida, is still in the running.
