5 Cool Activities for Farmington Public Schools Kids

Kids have many ways to fill their time outside the classroom.

As the school year starts, Farmington Public Schools students have a wide variety of activities to enjoy outside the classroom.

Here are five activities we've found. Tell us in the comments what's going on at your school!

1. Running

Beechview Elementary is launching a Marathon Club for kids to get in shape by walking, jogging or running 26.2 miles over the course of 26 weeks.

2. Junior Honor Society

This program recognizes outstanding students in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character, and is available to students at East and Dunckel Middle Schools.

3. Science Olympiad

East Middle School and Power Upper Elementary students and parents interested in this program are invited to a Sept. 13, 6:30 p.m., in the Power cafeteria. Science Olympiad teams compete in 23 events that cover a broad range of science subjects. The activity is aligned with the Michigan Science curriculum.

4. Destination Imagination

Two Farmington Schools DI teams took global honors during the last school year. Not every school offers this program, which is dependent on parent involvement. Student DI teams work independently to solve unique challenges.

5. Foreign Languages at Warner Upper Elementary

Parents are invited to learn more on Wednesday, 7 p.m., about a new language program offered at Warner through a partnership with Linguaflo and the Farmington Hills Youth Center. Fee-based classes in Spanish and Mandarin will be available.
