Man in Custody after Police Standoff in Farmington

Farmington Public Safety calls in Oakland County's Special Weapons and Tactics team to assist.

Farmington Public Safety Director Bob Schulz says a man has been taken into custody after a standoff Thursday morning on Hawthorne Street.

Farmington and Farmington Hills officers blocked Nine Mile Road at Grand River and Cora for several hours, as police dealt with the situation. Schulz said public safety officers responded at around 7 a.m. to a call about an incident between a man and a woman at the home in the 21100 block of Hawthorne. He said the relationship between the man and woman wasn't clear.

"There was assaultive behavior," Schulz said. "We believed there were weapons used and in the home, and we believed the suspect was using drugs and alcohol."

The Oakland County Special Weapons and Tactics team was called in and took the man, who Schulz described as "middle-aged", out of the house without further incident.

Schulz said the woman was injured in the initial assault, but no one else was hurt.

"We will be continuing to investigate this for the rest of the day," he said.
