5 Things You Should Know Today - Nov. 21, 2011
It's the start of a busy holiday week in Farmington and Farmington Hills.
We're headed to a ribbon cutting today for one of our community's newest restaurants. Let's hope the rain holds off:
1. The weather
It'll be cool today, with a high of just 45, and there's a 20 percent chance of rain during the daylight hours. The National Weather Service also predicts a mostly cloudy night, with a low of 32.
2. Welcome The Maple House
If you're planning to be in the 11 Mile and Middlebelt area at noon today, stop in at to help them cut the ribbon on their new restaurant. The invites everyone to welcome this new restaurant to the area.

3. Farmington DDA board meeting
The (DDA) oversees activities and events in the city's central business district. The DDA board meets at 6 p.m. today at , and the meeting is open to the public.
4. Look ahead: Thanksgiving Day
All government offices, including and city halls, the U.S. Post Office and branches, and the Farmington Community Library and , will be closed on Thursday. Also, remember – no trash pick-up on Thursday.

5. Look ahead: S.O.U.L. bowling fundraiser
We just learned about a bowling fundraiser Dec. 4 at that will raise funds for a local day care and family with foster and special needs children, through S.O.U.L. (Source of Universal Love), a Farmington-based charity. The event, which includes bowling, soft drinks, pizza, games, a raffle and 50-50 drawing, begins at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $20.
