Deaf & Hearing Impaired Services to Add Support Groups

Susan Sullivan will coordinate support groups for people who are hard of hearing through the Farmington Hills-based nonprofit.

Farmington Hills-based Deaf & Hearing Impaired Services, Inc. (DHIS), a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency that provides services for deaf and hard of hearing older adults and their families, has appointed Susan Sullivan of Beverly Hills as a Support Group Coordinator.

Sullivan will be responsible for the creation and implementation of groups to enable hard of hearing individuals to understand their loss, share their experience and help one another.

“The goal of the DHIS Support Groups are to help hard of hearing individuals help themselves through education, coping skills, listening strategies and the latest technologies,” said Linda Booth, DHIS president.

A grassroots and consumer driven organization, DHIS serves deaf and hard of hearing older adults in southeast Michigan by providing access to services otherwise made impossible or difficult due to the communication barrier.
