Farmington Civic Theater wins two categories in the annual WDIV-TV 4theBest contest.

Farmington Civic Theater took top honors in two categories in this year's WDIV-TV 4theBest contest

The NBC affiliate annually asks viewers to rank local businesses in a wide variety of categories. The city-owned discount movie theater on Grand River in downtown Farmington won in the "Movie Theater" and "Bargain Movie Theater" categories.

"We have the best customers. They're very supportive of our historic cinema and it showed in this contest," theater general manager Scott Freeman said in a press release.

The theater has seen an increase in annual attendance from 37,000 to 78,000 over the last three years, the release noted. In July,  the downtown Farmington venue converted to a digital projection system and Dolby 7.1 Surround sound, among other technical upgrades.

Basement Burger Bar, also on Grand River, took 3rd place in the "Burger" category, and downtown Farmington's Riley Park earned 3rd place honors in the Outdoor Concert Venue category.
