A Farmington Hills company that specializes in event planning, stationery and floral design was honored during The Special Event Gala on Jan. 18 in Chicago.
In a press release, Emerald City Designs: The Special Event Group announced its award for Best Floral Design at the event, hosted by Special Events Magazine to recognize the finest work in special events worldwide.
With the company's entry, “A Floral Romance Sanctuary”, designers created a magnificent table made of hundreds of stems of flowers. This year, 340 entrants from around the world went through three rounds of judging by members of the Special Events Magazine Advisory Board, composed of leaders and professionals in the event industry.
Emerald City Designs is celebrating its 20th year in business, the release noted. Owner David C. McKnight discovered his passion for events early in life, launching his company at the age of 21, while supporting himself by cleaning houses and waiting tables. He credits Toni Genitti of Genitti’s Hole-in-the-Wall in Northville with supporting and guiding him through his first few years as an entrepreneur.
For the past 20 years, McKnight has developed strong relationships by getting to know every client and becoming personally involved with all events, the release noted. McKnight also credits the more than 50 employees he hires during the year with contributing to the company's success.
“If it weren’t for the employees," he said, "we wouldn’t be recognized internationally today."
