Farmington Hills Physician Opens Holistic Center in Keego Harbor

Dr. Joanne Sandler-Goldberg's Center for Optimal Health and Wellness helps men and women with health problems related to aging.

Farmington Hills resident Joanne Sandler-Goldberg, M.D. has opened the Center for Optimal Health and Wellness, a holistic medicine practice, in Keegor Harbor, to provide patients with natural approaches to their health concerns.

The center, located at 2900 Orchard Lake Rd., will focus on holistic methods for both men and women who experience a variety of health problems as they age, such as female and male menopause, osteoporosis, depression, weight gain, lack of energy, irritability, and inability to sleep.

“Too often, people are told that their lack of energy or not feeling like their old selves is just a normal process of aging, and they are then given a pill to treat their symptoms,” said Sandler-Goldberg. “However, it doesn’t get to the underlying reason they are having the symptoms in the first place, so the problem persists.”

Holistic therapies can actually help treat a patient’s underlying problem, and help people feel better and improve their quality of life. Sandler-Goldberg said often, "one can decrease or even avoid taking medication and use natural alternatives instead, which may decrease the potential for serious side effects.”

She said her own personal health issues spurred her to learn about the field of holistic medicine and age-management medicine. While working full-time as a physician and raising her four children, Sandler-Goldberg pursued extensive training and became board-certified in Age-Management and Regenerative Medicine through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

Rather than just treating symptoms, the Center for Optimal Health and Wellness first obtains a thorough history from the patient, performs a directed physical exam, and obtains a diagnosis through appropriate testing, using blood or often saliva testing, Sandler-Goldberg said. She provides each patient with an individualized holistic regimen that may incorporate hormonal optimization, with nutritional support, herbal supplements and exercise programs, while addressing the entire person as a whole.

Sandler-Goldberg also works with Leigha LaRosa, a licensed myo-therapist, who owns Back to Wellness in Keego Harbor and practices clinical and oncology massage. Sandler-Goldberg is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist in private practice at Michigan Women's Health Institute in West Bloomfield and Clawson.
