Grace & Wild Participates in Specs Howard Jobs Series

The Farmington Hills studio will host a session June 16.

Considering a career change or new opportunities in the diverse world of media arts? Experience all the field has to offer as Specs Howard School of Media Arts launches its summer "Media Mayhem" workshop series, Thursday nights in June.

All sessions are free and open to the public and held at Specs Howard's campuses in
Farmington Hills and Southfield.

Led by faculty, each workshop will also feature a special guest appearance by some of the media industry's most successful professionals including writer illustrator B.K. Taylor (Walt Disney Animations; Jim Henson Productions; Mad Magazine) and popular 89X Morning radio hosts Dave & Chuck "The Freak."

Sessions will focus on practical, hands-on activities that will allow participants to explore illustration and design, radio, commercial production and newscasting, respectively.

Radio Production & Voice Over
Thursday, June 9, 2 p.m.- 5 p.m.
19900 W. 9 Mile Rd., Southfield

Participants will journey into the studio and behind the microphone to
experience the world of radio, including creating, producing and voicing a
promotional announcement.

Special Guests: Dave & Chuck "The Freak," hosts of the popular Morning X
show on 89X, will kick-off the workshop with a brief overview and discussion
about their experiences working in radio. In recent years, Dave & Chuck have
enjoyed in a surge in popularity and were awarded Detroit's best morning
show in 2010 by Metromix readers.

Sound Stage Commercial Shoot
Thursday, June 16, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Grace & Wild, 23689 Industrial Park Dr., Farmington Hills

Attendees will use professional audio/video recording and editing equipment to shoot a public service announcement/commercial at Grace & Wild Studios' B stage, and take home a copy of the finished commercial. Special guest Nicole Finateri is an assistant editor at STS-Griot, a division of Grace & Wild located in Ferndale, where she has recently contributed to commercials for Jeep, Ford, and the U.S. Navy.

Live Television News Broadcast
Thursday, June 23, 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
19900 W. 9 Mile Rd., Southfield

Session participants will aid in producing a live broadcast from both sides of the camera, taking advantage of teleprompters, green screens and the expertise of Specs' staff guidance. Special guest will be a local TV news anchor.

New Media Seminar
Thursday, June 30, 2 p.m.-5 p.m.
19900 W. 9 Mile Rd., Southfield

Take an in-depth look at how technology is changing media and creating new opportunities for content creators. Topics will include podcasting, internet radio, social media and the explosion of online video content (Youtube, Vimeo, etc.). Special guest Lori Lewis is the digital and social media strategist  for Jacobs Media, the  largest radio consulting firm in the United States specializing in rock formats.
