Headed to Sochi or Super Bowl? Plan Ahead, Farmington Biz Owner Says

Taking the time to prepare emergency information can provide peace of mind, according to Sandy Altschul.

If you're headed to Super Bowl XLVIII or the winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, Sandy Altschul, President and CEO of Farmington-based ARK LCC Critical Incident Management (CIM), has some advice for you.

Altschul said that a few key preparations when you're traveling out of state or out of the country can add to your peace of mind:

  • Have emergency contact information available both on paper and on your cell phone (and be sure that someone will be able to answer your phone at any time). Be sure emergency information is readily available to your emergency contact including: Doctor/dentist(s) names and numbers (be certain they have your authority to provide health records); health insurance provider and numbers; contact information for family members
  • Written medical information kept with you should include blood type, doctor’s contact, medications (This information should be kept as secure as possible and should be translated into local language.)
  • Take extra medications in case delayed (local pharmacies may not have what’s needed or may have quality issues)
  • As soon as possible determine if there is a local emergency number where family can call to get information on the situation, and whether the person answering speaks English
  • Create a ‘Code Word” that can be used to validate who may be asking for information
