JARC Receives $50K Donation, Pledge from Korotkin Insurance Group

The Farmington Hills-based nonprofit serves people with developmental disabilities.

JARC, a Farmington Hills-based, nonprofit provider of services for people with developmental disabilities, has received a $50,000 donation pledge from Korotkin Insurance Group, in celebration of the Southfield company's 100th anniversary.

Korotkin Insurance Group has committed to raising an additional $50,000 in matching contributions, with events including Bonus Bingo Night in October, Fall Fix-Up in November, Baking with Korotkin Insurance in March, Spring Elation at the Detroit Zoo in May, Flower-a-thon in June and Centennial Barbecue at one of JARC’s group homes in July.

JARC serves 400 families in metro Detroit, with around 200 involved in its residential program – community-based homes for developmentally disabled adults – and 200 in the children and family division which provides services such as social programs, advocacy and inclusion programs in school and the workplace.

Rick Loewenstein, CEO of JARC, said the donation and additional fundraising would provide substantial help with programs and services, in addition to educating the community at large.

“People with disabilities are the same as everyone else – they need to feel a sense of self-worth, hang out with friends at the movies or a ballgame, and volunteer,” said Loewenstein. “JARC’s mission is to enrich their lives and support them in the community. Korotkin Insurance Group’s outstanding donation and yearlong partnership with us is just a fantastic way for the company to celebrate its longevity and support the community in which they’ve served for 100 years; their financial commitment will make a huge difference to the individuals we serve.”

“We all live very busy, active lives that surround our business, family and friends but sometimes you have to take a step back and reflect on the good things you have all around you,” said Kenneth Korotkin, the great-grandson the Korotkin family insurance business' founder. “My family has been supported by our community for nearly 100 years and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate this fact, or honor my father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather, than by supporting the JARC organization.”

Korotkin, 61, who lives in Bloomfield Hills and is president of Korotkin Insurance Group, added: “JARC provides so much needed help to people all over our community. To spend one day or evening with the JARC workers and the people they serve puts a smile on your face.”
