Long-time Farmington Hills Restaurant Roosevelt's Closes

A sign on the door this week told patrons the restaurant is closed.

Patons of long-time Farmington Hills restaurant arrived at the door this week to find a sign announcing the business has closed.

While the sign read "closed until further notice," a post on the restaurant's Facebook page was more definite: "Regretfully, Roosevelt's Billiards Bar & Grill is no longer in business. Thank you for your support over the last 18 years!".

The news came as a surprise to customers, who reacted with shock on the restaurant's Facebook page. Peggy Latimer-Wilke said she and her friends "are all sad to see Roosevelt's is gone. It was the place we always knew we could meet up for drinks and the cushion bread, a group favorite. We could get a great table and not feel rushed to leave. Mom's Night Out won't be quite the same."

Although the restaurant is a member of the , director Mary Engelman said she knew nothing about the closure.

With decor and a name inspired by America's 26th president, Teddy Roosevelt, the spacious restaurant's centerpiece is a custom-made bar that stands 13 feet high and is fitted with crown moldings. A chainsaw-carved bust of Teddy Roosevelt is just one of several sculptures inside, and the stained glass front door and vestibule dome were imported from Texas, according to the restaurant's website.

Roosevelt's also operated in Sterling Heights; phone calls to that number resulted only in a continuous busy signal. A call to the Farmington Hills location today seeking additional information was not returned.
