Morels in Farmington Hills Closes

Crain's Detroit Business says Hellas Greek Restaurant will open in the space soon.

According to reports, Morels, launched as a Matt Prentice restaurant in Farmington Hills, has closed its doors for good.

An article in Crain's Detroit Business states that the restaurant closed sometime in the last week or so, and that a sign on the building's entrance says a new restaurant, Hellas Greek Restaurant, is coming soon.

The restaurant is next door to Prentice's Detroit Prime Steakhouse, which closed earlier this year. The Detroit Free Press reported that Prentice left Morels in April, to keep his catering business separated from the restaurant, which is the subject of a lawsuit.

Morels had been steeped in controversy almost since it opened in 2012. Prentice resigned from Matt Prentice Group over a disagreement about opening Morels; he launched the restaurant in May with a business partner.

After Prentice resigned, Matt Prentice Group's name changed to Epicurean Group. CEO Stanley B. Dickson Jr. sued Prentice over a noncompete agreement after Morels opened.
