Neighborhood Shop: Off the Beaten Path, You'll Find This Bookstore
The Farmington store has a cozy feel and a steampunk theme.
Just as its name implies, is a unique shop tucked away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Patrons enjoy a quiet haven, with comfortable furnishings, where they can enjoy a good book and a delicious beverage or snack in a cozy and charming atmosphere.
Owned by Salathiel Palland and located just south of Shiawassee Road, on the west side of Orchard Lake Road, Off the Beaten Path is the first steampunk themed bookstore of its kind in Michigan, specializing in a brand of science fiction with a Victorian theme.

“It has always been a passion of mine to open a bookstore,” said Palland. “For me, it is a win-win to have my books and the café.”
Featuring steampunk décor, which combines the look and feel of Victorian England with various futuristic gadgets, Palland opened her store one year ago as a place where book lovers can gather for good reads, good company, and more.

“I offer a great community experience, including live events and music,” said Palland. “I have great books, great food and great community.”
Visitors can also shop for handmade jewelry and accessories, bring the children for bedtime stories, or gather with friends for a Steampunk Fairy High Tea. Groups of crafters regularly gather to do their handwork and enjoy friendly conversation. Off the Beaten Path also hosts community events, including zombie walks that have ended in downtown Farmington's .
According to Palland, her store is the perfect place for “someone who is slightly eclectic and quirky.” There is something for everyone to read, see and do.

The bookstore is open for business Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m.
