To Scott Davis, Michigan is a land of opportunity.
"I truly feel Michigan has a lot to offer," said Davis, whose American Income Life (AIL) - Davis Agencies opened a Farmington Hills office in July at 30445 Northwestern Hwy. "Michigan is the number one opportunity internationally in our business."
Davis said the company plans to hire 100 people over the next several months, to serve the 32,000 people who are waiting to be seen by representatives.
Founded in 1924, AIL since the 1960s has been the only 100 percent union life company in America, he said. The company now also works with associations and credit unions, handling permanent and supplemental benefits for their members.
Applicants don't need a college degree, but should be personable, speak and present themselves well. Davis said AIL has hired people from all walks of life. Employees meet with union and association members who have already submitted information to the company, so there's no "cold calling".
Training ranges from three weeks to three months, depending on the position. And be prepared for a 60-hour work week, with "an intense schedule".
"In this business, we do put professional hours in, but it's worth it," Davis said, noting that those who meet their goals for five consecutive weeks may be promoted to management-level, with a significant raise. He describes the company's retirement plan as "phenomenal".
Davis, a young father with twin sons, said working for AIL "changes people's lives."
"It's changed my life," he added.
