Shop Downtown Farmington and Win Wish List Window Prizes

In its fourth year, the "shop local" promotion has doubled in size and will award 11 prize packages valued at more than $600 each.

The Downtown Farmington Wish List Window is more crowded than ever this year, as twice the number of merchants are participating in the "shop local" campaign.

Located at 33317 Grand River Ave., next to the Village Mall merchants, the window is filled with gift certificates and merchandise from stores within the Farmington Downtown Development Authority (DDA) district.

From Nov. 23 through Dec. 17, shoppers can pick up a stamp card at any participating location. Merchants will stamp the card with each purchase, and for every $100 you spend, your name is entered into the Wish List Window prize package drawing.

Each of 11 winners will receive a prize package worth approximately $600, and the total value of the window is more than $6,000. A link to the Wish List Window brochure, which includes a detailed list of the 67 participating businesses and photos of the prizes, is on the Farmington DDA's website

In 2009, the Wish List Window program began Dec. 1 and ended one week before Christmas, generating $22,000 in tracked sales in downtown Farmington. Those figures rose to $49,000 in 2010, and to over $60,000 in 2011, during the same time period. DDA officials expect that capturing Black Friday and Small Business Saturday sales with a Nov. 23 start date this year will translate into another overall increase in local shopping this holiday season.
