Tomatoes Apizza Takes Second Pizza Palooza People's Choice Award

Judges gave top honors to Papa Romano's and Jets Pizza in the event, which drew a record crowd.

A record crowd voted Tomatoes Apizza their favorite in Sunday's Pizza Palooza competition, held at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills.

This was the second consecutive People's Choice award for the Farmington Hills restaurant, which has locations on Middlebelt and Halsted. Bellacino's in Farmington took second place. Judges gave the nod to Papa Romano's for first place and Jets Pizza for second place, citing generous, fresh toppings and a good blend of cheese and flavors.

City recreation superintendent Bryan Farmer said twice as many people pre-registered for the event as did last year, with even more showing up the night of the event. Just before 6 p.m., the line to get in the door snaked around the building's reception area and down the hall. He estimated, including volunteers, about 200 people attended.
