Total Sports Complex Plans Farmington Opening in October

The business offers space with artificial turf for a variety of sports, as well as performance training.

When Total Sports Complex opens in the former Farmington Tennis Club facility on Farmington Road Oct. 20, the business will have a built-in customer base.

"As a business, we're always looking to expand, and a lot of our customers come from the Farmington, Farmington Hills, Livonia area," owner Tony Moscone said. "Unfortunately for us, this is not something we can build on every corner, so when this building became available, we jumped on it."

The 73,000-square-foot Tennis Club building was abruptly closed in May and was auctioned in June. City officials said the owner could not come to terms with the high bidder, giving Total Sports Complex the opportunity to take over. The business provides indoor facilities for performance training and team sports like baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse.

"You supply the sport, we supply the space," said David Wieme, who handles media relations for the company. Teams come to Total Sports Complex not only for playing space, but also for performance training, Moscone added.

The company also offers Fitness Revolution, a group training program that includes an exercise program, encouragement and support for meeting weight loss and fitness goals.

In addition to replacing tennis courts with artificial turf, Moscone said the company is doing some clean-up of the landscaping around the building. He said Farmington city manager Vince Pastue and Economic and Community Development Director Kevin Christensen have been "just awesome and right there to hold our hands and lead us through" the process of taking over the building.

"It's nice to feel welcome wen you come into a new community," Wieme said.

Moscone said he believes families will take advantage of the city's central business district, just a few blocks away, as they look for a quick bite to eat or to do some shopping after a game or training.

"I think downtown will reap benefits," he said.
