Wixom-Based Sports Business Buys Farmington Tennis Club Building

Total Sports Complex plans an indoor recreation facility to serve area sports teams, youth sports programs and athletes.

Nearly four months after the doors closed at the Farmington Tennis Club in Farmington, the empty building has new owners.

Total Sports Complex of Wixom, which provides indoor facilities for performance training and team sports like baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse, contacted the City of Farmington this week to announce the purchase. Economic and community development director Kevin Christiansen said Total Sports Complex intends to issue a press release next week with more information.

Farmington Tennis Club abruptly closed in May, with no notice to members or staff. The Oakland County Treasurer's office posted a notice announcing the seizure of property for more than $5,000 in back taxes.

On June 19, the building was auctioned, with a $750,000 starting price, but the owner was unable to come to terms with the high bidder, Christiansen said.

"The new owners are working to clean up the exterior and landscaping," he added. "They are working with the city on interior modifications that will include the installation of athletic turf."

Christiansen said the company's plans will not require planning commission review.
