Botsford Hospital and seven physician practices of the Botsford Clinic System are pleased to announce they have received MPRO's 2014 Governor's Award of Excellence.

Botsford Hospital and seven physician practices of the Botsford Clinic System are pleased to announce they have received MPRO's 2014 Governor's Award of Excellence. 
 
"The entire leadership team at Botsford Health Care joins me in congratulating each employee and every physician on our staff for the personal effort they have made for this collective achievement," said Paul E. LaCasse, D.O., MPH, president and CEO, Botsford Health Care. "I am so proud of them and grateful for how they have achieved our shared vision to be a leader in personalized, quality health care." 
 
Botsford Hospital was recognized for outstanding inpatient clinical achievement in the acute care hospital setting. To receive this honor, Botsford improved the quality and efficiency of the health care delivery system in four clinical topic areas (acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care) and in eight patient experience of care measures (nurse communication, doctor communication, hospital staff responsiveness, pain management, medicine communication, hospital cleanliness and quietness, discharge information, and overall hospital rating). In addition, acute care hospitals were required to meet additional overall criteria, including the submission of a process improvement plan. 
 
Seven Botsford-owned practices were recognized for outstanding achievement in the Disparities and Cardiac Health (DACH) Program: 
1. Botsford Family Medicine Center, Novi 
2. Botsford Family Practice, Livonia 
3. Botsford Medical Center, Redford 
4. Botsford Primary Care Physicians, Dearborn Heights 
5. Fairwood Family Practice, Dearborn Heights 
6. Farmington Village Family Practice, Farmington 
7. Midwest Internal Medicine Associates, Livonia 
 
These clinics improved rates of aspirin, blood pressure control, lipid management, LDL-C management, smoking cessation, body mass index (BMI), and/or blood sugar. These Botsford-owned physician practices also worked to decrease health care disparities and used electronic health records to effectively implement care management and patient self-management interventions. 
 
"These awards demonstrate Michigan's deep commitment to providing high quality, safe, and efficient health care," said Michigan Governor Rick Snyder. "By using proven, evidence-based practices, these organizations are making sure individuals get the right care at the right time." 
 
"We're very fortunate to be able to partner with Botsford and other dedicated organizations across the state of Michigan," said MPRO President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Yellan, MPH, J.D., FACHE. "To be able to recognize these accomplishments with the Governor's office underscores the importance of these efforts to improve health care quality in the state." 
 
The Governor's Award of Excellence was developed in 2003. The current award is based upon work from 2012-2014 in the following areas: 
 
* Reducing health care associated infections 
* Reducing health care acquired conditions in nursing homes  
* Reducing adverse drug events  
* Integrating care for populations and communities through improving care transitions and coordination  
* Improving preventive care and early diagnosis through immunizations and screening  
* Improving clinical quality measures associated with improving cardiac health 
* Improving clinical quality measures among acute care and critical access hospitals  
* Reducing disparities of care in cardiac health
