Downtown Farmington merchant starts wig service at Botsford Cancer Center

Beyond the advanced technology at the Botsford Cancer Center, a new service is being offered that can restore a cancer patient's self-confidence and sense of identity when she's experienced hair loss as a side effect of her medical treatment. It's called the New Reflections Boutique, Services by Rebecca's Wigs. And, it's run by a specially-trained professional staff from Merle Norman of Farmington.

"Hair is often a source of self-confidence and identity for individuals. Therefore, when cancer patients experience hair loss from treatments such as chemotherapy, they can lose their sense of self as well," said Jeri Davis, MSW, the medical social worker at Botsford Cancer Center. "Wearing a wig, however, can reinstate a bit of confidence and may help a patient feel like her old self again---a healthy person you wouldn't recognize as being sick. Wigs for cancer patients can offer a sense of empowerment during a very scary, uncontrollable time."

"Some who use our wig service at Botsford Cancer Center are unable to drive or do not have access to transportation, so we are a one-stop shop for them," said Karen L. Gara, owner, New Reflections Boutique as well as its parent store, Merle Norman of Farmington. "We schedule personal consultations with patients in private rooms where my staff assists them in selecting a flattering wig style. We offer these same private appointments to cancer patients at our store in downtown Farmington, where we've just added a new wig studio featuring more than 100 wig styles and other accessories."

"My staff is very caring and compassionate," Gara continued. "Whether our customer wants a convenient alternative to her current hairstyle or needs a wig due to hair loss, we provide the highest-quality products, outstanding customer service, and a professional approach."

In addition to Services by Rebecca's Wigs, the New Reflections Boutique located on the second floor of the Botsford Cancer Center offers many other products to help women feel beautiful and cared for while healing. Merchandise includes personal hygiene products, headware, inspirational jewelry, key rings, greetings cards, and bookmarks.
