Longtime Botsford Hospital surgeon receives top honor from MSU's College of Osteopathic Medicine

Harris Mainster, D.O., has received the highest award from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM)---its 2014 Walter F. Patenge Medal of Public Service. He joins a celebrated group of leaders in health care, education, and community service who have received past medals, which are named for Walter F. Patenge, the first president of the Michigan Osteopathic Medicine Advisory Board. Dr. Mainster was recognized during a dinner on May 12 at MSU's Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center. 
 
Dr. Mainster serves several roles at Botsford Hospital, where he has been on staff as a general and trauma surgeon for almost 50 years. In addition to being a member on the hospital's and The Botsford Foundation's Boards of Directors, Dr. Mainster is the hospital's chairman of the Department of Surgery and is a member of the Medical Executive Committee. Dr. Mainster also serves as a clinical faculty member at MSUCOM. Moreover, he is a veteran of numerous trips to developing countries, offering teaching and medical/surgical care to meet the needs of some of the world's most vulnerable people. He is also active in several professional and Jewish organizations, including serving on many boards.
