The Chaldean Community Foundation Hires Ban Abbo as Refugee Mental Health Services (RMHS) Program Manager

The Chaldean Community Foundation (CCF) today announced Ban Abbo has joined the organization as Program Manager of its Refugee Mental Health Services (RMHS) initiative.

With more than 11 years of practical experience in a variety of environments andcapacities, Abbo will bring her individual and family counselor/therapist expertise to the CCF’s Southfield office. In her new role, Abbo will direct the activities of the RMHS program, which supplies mental health services to Iraqi refugees and others in southeast Michigan. Her responsibilities will include working directly with internal and external staff and service providers who deliver direct care to clients, fostering relationships with area medical professionals to receive referrals to the RMHS program and managing activities of the CCF driver who transports clients to and from appointments.

Prior to her role with the CCF, Abbo worked as a therapist at a mental health services provider in southeast Michigan, where she assessed and developed plans with clients, documented patients’ behavior and treatment and counseled clients to help them understand problems, define goals and develop action plans.

Abbo earned her Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology, with a concentration in Clinical and Humanistic Psychology from the Michigan School of Professional Psychology and her Bachelor of Arts degree, with a concentration in Psychology, from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She resides in Farmington Hills, Mich.

The CCF is the nonprofit arm of the Chaldean-American Chamber, which is comprised of more than 900 members of the Chaldean community in metro Detroit, with nearly 60 percent owning at least one business, and 39 percent owning two or more. An increasing number of community members are becoming professionals in the legal, medical and educational fields.

With a population of more than 121,000, metro Detroit is home to the largest Chaldean community outside of Iraq.
