Highs and Lows of Summer

The highs and lows of summer refer to more than just temperatures. It’s about Meijer fashion with tops, bottoms, dresses and skirts.

Maxi dresses and skirts offer a feminine flair with knee-length front hems elongating to floor-length backs. Tops taper downward from front to back, or offer additional detailing with front ties at the waist.  Pants are long and fluid, like palazzo, or cropped as capris.

A lot of variance is also offered in shorts. Shorts are available in most any length: knee- length, mid-length and shorter styles, as well as roll-up options.

“Trends in shorts this season are seen in all lengths,” said Lynn Hempe, group vice president of softlines for Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer Meijer. “Women of any body type can choose their preferred length of shorts to wear with a flowing chiffon top to feel feminine, or a variety of cotton tees and tanks to keep cool during the summer months.”

·         Knee-length shorts, like Bermudas, are usually a bit dressier and are perfect for shopping, travel, or even a casual work function. Pair with a higher heeled or wedge sandal for a leg-lengthening appearance.

·         Mid-length shorts remain the most popular as they are flattering on many body types. They are the perfect length for walking, golfing and an overall classic casual look. Depending on the occasion, pair with a flat or heeled sandal.

·         Shorter shorts show off the entire leg and lengthen the appearance of a leg. Most shorter shorts are worn for informal gatherings, active outdoor activities and casual events. A flat gladiator style sandal is the perfect match.

·         Roll-up shorts allow for maximum usage. Vary the length a few inches up or down to fit your mood or the occasion.
