5 Things You Should Know This Weekend - April 13-15, 2012

Fine Art Friday Nights kicks off a rainy weekend in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

There's a rainy weekend ahead, and plenty to do in Farmington and Farmington Hills. In addition to tonight's , here's what else is happening: 

1. The weather

Enjoy the sun today, we're in for a rainy weekend. The National Weather Service predicts a 60-70 percent chance of thunderstorms starting tonight and stretching all the way through to Sunday. Highs will range in the 60s and 70s, with lows in the upper 40s and 50s.

You'll need to register for this 7 p.m. event held today at the , where you'll learn to identify native frogs and toads. They just like a real scientist, you will complete data sheets and can volunteer to take part in the seasonal frog and toad surveys. Cost is $5; call 248-477-1135 to register. For ages 6 and older.

The Farmington Community Library invites children ages 3-5 and their caregivers to enjoy some science fun with experiments and projects at the on Saturday at 2 p.m. There's no charge and no need to register. Call 248-553-0300 if you have questions.

Hear poet and writer Keith Taylor read from his works during a Sunday, 2 p.m., fundraiser at  in Farmington. Hosted by Absinthe: New European Writing, the event will also feature live music by guitarist Scott Thompson, wine and cheese, sweet treats and coffee. The event will help fund an international film festival in Farmington June 1 and 2. For information and tickets, visit absinthenew.com.

5. Look ahead:

Adults age 50 or better are invited to connect with State Representative Vicki Barnett (D-Farmington Hills) Monday, 9:30 a.m., at the . There will also be an expert panel from the Accounting Aid Society and the Municipal Employees' Retirement System to talk about tax changes, tell you about helpful resources and more.
