5 Things You Should Know This Weekend - April 27-29, 2012

It's a busy weekend in Farmington and Farmington Hills, from live theater to blood drives, and a chance of snow.

Our events calendar is filled with activities happening this weekend in Farmington and Farmington Hills – even though the weather may turn on us: 

1. The weather

While today will be sunny and clear, rain moves in tonight and may even be mixed with snow Saturday and Saturday night. The National Weather Service predicts highs this weekend from 45-55, and lows in the 30s. 

2. Live theater

Two big local shows celebrate their opening weekends:

The Wizard of Oz, at the Costick Center, features a cast of 170 young actors who share the timeless story of Dorothy Gale and her trip down the Yellow Brick Road. Read more about the .

 with Little Shop of Horrors, which opens at the Players Barn theater tonight at 8 p.m. The show runs weekends through May 19; get tickets and learn more at farmingtonplayers.org.

3. Big sales

4. Blood drives

You have two opportunities to give the gift of life this weekend:

  •  hosts a drive on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 248-473-7433 to learn more. 
  •  hosts a drive Sunday, 8 a.m.–1:45 p.m., hosted by the church's Christian Service Commission. Call 248-207-1225 to learn more. 

5. Look ahead: Screen Free Week

Join the Farmington Hills/Farmington Commission on Children, Youth and Families in observing "Screen Free Week". Starting on Monday, try spending seven days turning off the television, computer and other media.
