5 Things You Should Know This Weekend - April 6-8, 2012

City offices in Farmington are closed all day, and Farmington Hills city offices close at noon today.

As a holiday weekend begins for those in both the Christian and Jewish faiths, some local government offices are closed either all day or a half-day today. Here's what else you should know about this weekend:

1. The weather

Lows will move from around 30 tonight into the 40s over the weekend, but it's still going to remain on the chilly side through Sunday. The best day of the weekend looks to be Saturday, with sunshine and a high of 61. Sunday brings a 30 percent chance of showers, through the evening.

The downtown Farmington coffee shop will display the acrylic, oil and watercolor artworks of Darl Papple during the month of April. Meet the artist at an opening reception tonight, 7 p.m. There's no admission charge for the event.

3. City offices closed today

City offices in are closed today. In , city hall closes at noon, as does the . Both the and are open regular hours today and tomorrow, but will be closed on Sunday.

4. Look ahead: 

Enjoy lunch and a slide show presentation by a guest DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts) speaker at the on Monday, at noon. The slideshow will be about one of the DIA's impressive collections. Admission is $6 is advance, $8 at the door. Call 248-473-1800 or stop by the Costick Center to learn more.

5. Look ahead: Farmington Planning Commission meets

On Monday, commissioners will consider two special land use permits, for an adult day care center at the , 32821 Grand River, and an expansion of the , 22777 Farmington Rd. Public hearings will be held for both projects. The commission will also look at a proposed ordinance for keeping chickens within city limits. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at , and the full agenda is attached to this article.
