5 Things You Should Know This Weekend – Dec. 16-18, 2011

Today is the last day to contribute to the Farmington Area Goodfellows holiday drive.

This is a big weekend for the Farmington Area Goodfellows, who will load up vehicles tomorrow morning for delivery to area families in need. Here's what else is going on this weekend:

1. The weather

Mostly sunny days today and Sunday will book-end a cloud Saturday with a 20-30 percent chance of snow. The National Weather Service predicts highs in the mid- to upper 30s, with lows between 25 and 30 degrees. 

2. Still time to help the Goodfellows

The Farmington Area Goodfellows still need donations for their holiday drive to make sure no child or senior goes without a Christmas this year. You can drop off today at or city halls. To volunteer to help with their last minute push and Saturday's delivery, visit farmingtonareagoodfellows.org or call 248-473-1360

3. S.O.U.L.-ful Holiday

Source of Universal Love (S.O.U.L.), a local charity that helps families in need, will host a holiday party on Saturday, 2 p.m.-4 p.m., at in Farmington. Visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus, photos, complimentary cookies and cocoa are on the itinerary. Make a reservation, by calling today, 248-987-6551.

Try out this popular form of dancing in an event . Admission is $5 for students, $10 for adults, and proceeds will go to Joy-Southfield Community Development, an organization that helps residents in a Detroit neighborhood. Come at 12:30 p.m. for a beginner's lesson, the dance starts at 1 p.m.

5. Look ahead: Last week for Deck the House

The last week of our Deck the House holiday lights contest begins on Monday! This is a great chance to show off your holiday decorating skills, and you'll have the chance to win $100,000 for Farmington Public Schools or to have your December electric bill paid. , which ends Dec. 26.
