5 Things You Should Know This Weekend - Feb. 10-12, 2012

Expect more wintry weather as we head into another weekend, but don't let that stop you from enjoying the many activities planned over the next three days: 

1. The weather

There will almost certainly be snow showers today, but the National Weather Service predicts not more than an inch of accumulation. We'll be in a deep freeze the rest of the weekend, with temperatures dipping into the 'teens each evening and climbing no higher than the upper 20s each day.

More than 30 vendors are expected at the market on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Old Winery/Powerhouse building on Grand River west of Orchard Lake in Farmington. There will be a chocolate cooking demonstration, just in time for Valentine's Day. While there may not be much snow on the ground, this 1 p.m. Sunday event in is still a go, according to naturalist Ashlie Simons. Carol Fink of the will share her knowledge of snowshoeing with participants. You must register in advance, call 248-473-1800. Cost is $5 plus snowshoe rental.

continues its music series by bringing concert pianist, Pauline Martin in at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The program will include Bach's "Italian Concerto", Ravel's "Sonatine", Chopin's "Ballade No. 4 in f minor" and Schubert's "Sonata in B-flat, D. 960". This concert is free and open to the public. 

5. Look ahead: Farmington Hills city council meets Monday

As of Thursday, officials planned to meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the community room at for a study session to discuss a potential dog park and amendments to the city's solicitor ordinance. The 7:30 p.m. regular meeting agenda was not complete, but always includes time for public comment on any topic.
