5 Things You Should Know This Weekend - Jan. 13-15, 2012

Take care on the roads this morning, they're likely to be slippery in spots.

Winter weather is back, with falling temperatures and snow expected today and tomorrow. If you're looking for something educational or just plain fun to do this weekend, check out our .

Here's what else you should know:

1. The weather

Arctic air swept into our area overnight, and snow showers are expected to continue through today and Saturday. The National Weather Service predicts from 1 to 3 inches of accumulation, with skies clearing on Sunday. Expect lows in the teens, and highs that hover around the mid-20s.

If winter weather makes you long for the summer, head on over to the in Farmington Hills at noon today for a dip in a heated pool. All swimmers with hair below the ear must wear a swim cap, and children ages 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the pool. Cost is $2.

The Farmington PTA Council and Together for Accelerated Learners (TAL) are sponsoring a series of Empowermind workshops with Kimberly Kassner, author of You're a Genius, and I Can Prove It!. Kassner works with students of all learning abilities and her high-energy workshops focus on individual learning styles, study skills, memory skills, test taking, the emotional component to learning and more. 5. Look ahead:

Learn To Skate sessions start Jan. 23 at the for beginning level skaters. Classes are offered Tuesday at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. They fill up, so call 248-478-8800 or visit ­fhice.­com to learn more. Registration forms are on the website.
