5 Things You Should Know This Weekend - Jan. 20-22, 2012

It's another busy weekend in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

With snow in the forecast, it may be a dicey weekend, but we've got plenty of reasons for you to get out of the house. Check our calendar of events for a full list, but here are a few weekend highlights: 

1. The weather

There's an 80-90 percent chance of snow today and tonight, and a 20 percent chance it will continue Saturday and Sunday. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures will creep from the 20s today into the 30s by Sunday.

There's still time to register for this Saturday morning class, taught by Jacob Nothstine, and there may even be some snowy scenes to photograph in . Bring your camera, warm coat and winter boots. Cost is $15 for residents, $20 for non-residents. Call 248-473-1800 to register.

3. Old Winery Market Pet Day

Pet-friendly vendors will be featured at Saturday's market, open in the Old Winery/Power House building on Grand River, west of Orchard Lake Rd., in Farmington. Open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the market showcases more than 30 businesses offering Michigan produce and Michigan-made products. Actors are invited to audition at the Sunday, 3 p.m., for this musical comedy. Actors are expected to be prepared with all pieces of the music for each of the characters they would like to play. The show opens April 27.

5. Look ahead: council meeting

Officials will honor outstanding city employees on Monday at 5 p.m. with a ceremony at the . They are expected to meet at 6:45 p.m. for a study session about the Economic Development Commission. A draft agenda for the 7:30 p.m. regular meeting includes a discussion of SMART bus service, a bid award for police motorcycles, a public hearing on a cluster site plan and a resolution adopting a millennial vision for the mayor and council.
