5 Things You Should Know This Weekend - Oct. 14-16, 2011

From today's Fire Department open house to Sunday's Labyrinth Walk in Heritage Park, this weekend is packed with activities in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

We couldn't possibly tell you everything you should know this weekend – there's just too much going on, starting with today's . Check our events calendar to see it all, but here's a sample:

1. The weather

Saturday is expected to be the clearest day this weekend; the National Weather Service predicts rain today and Sunday. Highs all three days will be in the mid-50s, with night-time lows in the mid-40s. And hold onto your hats, it's going to be windy, with gusts from 25-50 miles per hour, through Sunday.

2. Tag days for local music

Just a reminder – music students from , and high schools will be out in tuxedos and band uniforms all around town this weekend, giving out "tags" that will get you into a future band concert. Your donation helps support music programs in all three high schools, and with school budgets cut, those funds are needed more than ever.

State Rep. Vicki Barnett (D-37th District) will be at on Grand River in Farmington Saturday at 10 a.m., talking about what's going on in Lansing. You'll have the chance to ask questions and give her a piece of your mind, too. The event is free, there's no need to register, and the coffee's on her.

Enjoy chicken parmesan with a side of spaghetti, plus rolls, salad, and dessert, all for just $10 per person at , from 5 p.m.-7p.m. on Saturday. This event helps them support a non-profit that provides services to homeless veterans, who will be enjoying a meal at the post earlier in the day.

5. A quiet Sunday in Farmington Hills

After you at the Farmington Community Library Main Library on Sunday at 1 p.m. (), there's a relaxing and meditative planned in at 2 p.m. Both events happen rain or shine. The quilt show is free; the labyrinth walk costs $15 and you should register in advance on the City of Farmington Hills website.
