5 Things You Should Know This Weekend—July 8-10, 2011

The Gang, Detroit rock 'n' roll legends, will perform in Riley Park on Friday night.

Your Farmington-Farmington Hills weekend starts with a bang at Friday's Rhythmz in Riley Park concert. But will the weather cooperate?

1. The weather

The words "mostly sunny" and "mostly clear" appear four times in the National Weather Service forecast for this weekend. And that's all we have to say about that.

If you remember the Grande Ballroom and the early days of rock 'n' roll in Detroit, this week's Rhythmz in will feel like a stroll down memory lane. Legendary local band The Gang appears in concert at 7 p.m. Friday. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy this free concert.

3. Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market lineup

While you're shopping at the market in downtown Farmington, open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, you'll enjoy the musical stylings of Bob Monteleone from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Bob plays original music, as well as hits from artists like Neil Young and Radiohead. Take the Farmington Fit walk at 10 a.m. then stick around for a demo with chef Tony Calimazzo of Lila’s Pierogi of Livonia at 11 a.m.

Elizabeth Anne Hawthorne ends her reign as Miss Oakland County Saturday night, as she crowns the 2011 pageant winner in a ceremony at the in Farmington Hills. The pageant starts at 6:30 p.m. Megan Stocker will give up her Miss Oakland County Outstanding Teen crown in a pageant that starts at 2 p.m., also at the Costick Center. Miss Oakland County gave Kirsten Haglund her start; she was Miss America in 2008. For more information about tickets, check our event listing.
