5 Things You Should Know Today

Construction begins on 14 Mile Road, and yoga begins in the great outdoors.

It's Monday, which means we've got another "5 Things" to kick off your week. School may be over, but plenty of new things are just getting under way:

1. Construction on 14 Mile Road

Expect 14 Mile Road to be closed between Northwestern Highway and Middlebelt Road today – and for most of the summer. Construction will also close access on 14 Mile to Heather Heath Lane, Coach Lane, Briarcliff Knoll, Franklin Ridge and Briarcrest Knoll.

2. Outdoor yoga

"Yoga in the Great Outdoors" launches at 7 a.m. Monday in the beauty and natural splendor that is . No matter what your level of experience, you're welcome to . (A Wednesday group meets from 8-9 a.m.; we'll remind you in that day's "5 Things.")

3. A parent group for gifted education

Together for Accelerated Learners (TAL), a Farmington PTA Council group, meets at 7 p.m. Monday at . The group's mission, as stated on its website, is to "network, educate and inspire parents and educators and coordinate advocacy to further the academic, social and emotional needs of high-achieving students in the Farmington area." 4. Camps for kids

Monday marks the start of Camp Riley, a summer offering unique to Farmington and Farmington Hills. Children who participate extend their education into the summer, but they're having so much fun, they may not even realize they're learning. To learn more about Camp Riley, .

Monday is also the first day of Nature's Way Camp, a new addition to the programming at the in Heritage Park, and it's the first day for a summer of theater camps run by the city of Farmington Hills. 5. Early movies at the Civic

Starting today, you can see matinees extra early – 1 p.m. – at the . If it gets too hot inside, cool down at the movies, with the city-owned Civic's low ticket prices. Now showing: Water for Elephants, Soul Surfer and Rio. Showtimes are online at theFCT.com or you can call 248-474-1951.
