5 Things You Should Know Today - April 23, 2012

You can start your week by learning about census data, the Farmington city council budget or by celebrating volunteers in Farmington Hills. Here's what else you should know today: 

1. The weather

The new work week will be blown in with winds gusting as high as 24 miles hour. The National Weather Service predicts a high around 51 today, and a low around 36.

While 1940s census data has been released, it is not searchable by name. Sue Cromwell and Clare Mallon from the Farmington Genealogical Society will demonstrate how to navigate the data. 3. City councils, DDA meet

The (DDA) meets at 6 p.m. with an agenda that includes an update on Founders Festival, an application for building facade assistance and a proposal to replace the lawn in Riley Park. The DDA meets in closed session with officials at 7 p.m. to discuss a possible land acquisition, then the council will review the city's 2012-2013 budget, among other items. officials will receive the city's 2012-2013 budget at a 6 p.m. study session, then take up an agenda at 7:30 p.m. that includes recognition of volunteer award winners, a public hearing on Community Development Block Grant fund allocation and consideration of an interlocal agreement to provide public safety dispatch services for the City of Farmington. 4. Look ahead:
