5 Things You Should Know Today - April 24, 2012

The Farmington school board meets tonight and two gardening workshops are on tap this week.

Can you believe May starts just a week from today? As we head into gardening season, you may find two workshops offered this week of interest. Here's what else you should know:

1. The weather

Batten down the outdoor furniture, as the National Weather Service is predicting another windy day. Expect a high around 55, a low around 37, and winds as high as 30 miles per hour.

Depression in children looks different than it does in adults. That's just one of the things you can learn during tonight's Michigan School of Professional Psychology 2012 Better Living Series presentation on the signs, symptoms and solutions for depression in children. 3. Farmington School Board

After meetings of the Policy and Board Operations Committee at 5 p.m. and the Building and Site/Safety Committee at 6 p.m., officials will take up their regular agenda at 7:30 p.m., in the . It includes an after-school program update, a review of the district's three-year technology plan and a recommendation for approval of a district-wide bullying policy. An agenda for the meeting is attached to this post.

4. Look ahead:

James Lee from Square Foot Gardening will be at the Thursday at 6:30 p.m. to teach the principles and techniques for planting these small gardens. Register in advance by calling 248-553-0300 ext. 217.

5. Look ahead:

The  Commission for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (CEES) is hosting this free workshop at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
