5 Things You Should Know Today - April 25, 2012

Four workshops for gardeners are offered this week in Farmington and Farmington Hills Hills.

If you love gardening, this is your week. Local organizations and businesses are offering trips and tricks today and tomorrow during four workshops. Here's what else you should know: 

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts a high around 61 with mostly sunny skies and calmer winds. Tonight, the temperature will dip to around 47, with a 30 percent chance of rain. 

2. Gardening workshops

'Tis the season for those who love to work on their lawns and gardens, and there are four workshops on our calendar this week:

3. Look ahead:

Teepa Snow, a respected expert who has worked with tens of thousands of people living with and trying to cope with dementia, will speak during three Thursday sessions at in Farmington Hills. This free educational program for families, caregivers and professionals is titled "Letting Go of the Past: Learning to Live in the Here and Now". Choose from one of three sessions: 8 a.m.-10 a.m., 1 p.m.-3 p.m., 5 p.m.-7 p.m. RSVP by phone (248.865.1000) or email amarkiewicz@seniorhelpers.com

4. Look ahead:

The cost for this evening of personal conversation with some of Michigan's dynamic women leaders Thursday at is $20. Meet Vivian Pickard, president of the General Motors Foundation, JoAnne Purtan of WXYZ-TV, Honorable Roberta Archer Chief Judge Pro Tem of the 36th District Court and more. There will be a panel presentation, Q & A session, table discussions, hors d'oeuvres and desserts. 5. Look ahead:

This monthly event at Mentobe Cafe in downtown Farmington features the performances of Joe Kidd, John Rinn, Linda Girard, Mark Jewett and Derek Daniel, with Annie Capps hosting. Admission is free.
