5 Things You Should Know Today — Aug. 11, 2011

Concerts, a library board meeting and one last porch party are on tonight's calendar.

It's a busy evening in Farmington and Farmington Hills — and you can choose among a variety of activites on this sunny day:

1. The weather

The winds will die down today, and skies should remain mostly clear, according to the National Weather Service. A high of 77 degrees is expected today, and a low of around 60 degrees. Best news: no rain for tonight's Stars in the Park concert.

2. Stewart Francke at Stars in the Park

Celebrating the release of his 11th album, this rock and soul artist has myriad awards to his credit. He has performed with stellar performers including Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Winwood, Steve Earle, Eddie Money, Huey Lewis and the News and many others. Tonight, he entertains at Stars in the Park, a free concert series in , starting at 7 p.m.

The Farmington Historical Society hosts the season's last Porch Party at the tonight at 7 p.m., offering root beer and Vernor's floats. Cost is $5 to enjoy the evening and refreshments; children younger than 8 are admitted free.

4. Farmington Neighborhood Watch

The shares valuable information with residents at tonight's Neighborhood Watch meeting. You'll get the latest information about what's happening throughout the community, along with great safety tips. The meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. at , is free and open to the public.

5. Farmington Community Library Board

The library board's agenda includes a variety of reports and a discussion about ballot language for a millage renewal. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the board room at the on 12 Mile Road. There is time for public comment at the start of the meeting.
