5 Things You Should Know Today - Dec. 12, 2011

We're starting the week with the sun shining in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

Both the Farmington Hills City Council and Farmington Planning Commission meet tonight. Here's what else you should know about this sunny day:

1. The weather

Clear skies and sun are on tap today, according to the National Weather Service. Look for a high near 39, and low tonight of 29, with clouds increasing. 

2. Farmington Planning Commission

The commission's agenda includes consideration of renovation plans for property at 33713 Grand River and approval of 2012 meeting dates. They meet at at 7 p.m.

3. Hills officials consider bow ban

At tonight's city council meeting, officials will get their first look at a draft ordinance that would completely ban the discharge of all firearms, include bows and cross-bows. The agenda also includes public hearings on special assessment districts in LaMuera and Springland subdivisions, consideration of agreements regarding shared services with Farmington and the newly formed Grand River Corridor Improvement Authority. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers, and is preceded at 6 p.m. by a study session to review 2020 Visioning committee reports. A full agenda for both meetings is posted at fhgov.com.

4. Look ahead:

Join the Tuesday for an evening of holiday classics in the cozy . This annual concert features members of the Detroit Symphony and Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestras, the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, along with the Tyndale Artists Ensemble. Tickets are $17 for students and seniors, $19 for adults, and may be purchased at https://recreg.fhgov.com, by phone at 248- 473-1848 or at the . 5. Look ahead:

Held Tuesday, 7 p.m., at the Costick Center, this free seminar is offered to help homeowners who are looking to prevent or are dealing with foreclosure. Information about loan modification programs, alternatives to foreclosure, Michigan's foreclosure law, Michigan's Hardest Hit Program, and how to find assistance when you need it, will be available.
